Looking back to school days, I remember those funny things we did to take a pad towards the washroom. Folded & hidden in between the frills of our penaform. One girl right in front & one on the other side to accompany. We did it as if we were a part of a smuggling team. & I swear I can’t explain my feelings during Wednesdays, ‘The Total White Uniform Day’.
We were so nervous, but now it’s a funny, silly Indian teen girl thing. Well… I am not teenager anymore, but I am still stupid & silly, for sure.
I wish our parents & teachers have told us, Period is not something to be afraid or feel shy about. It’s something that shows how strong & patient you need to become a complete woman, a divine, painful & important phase in a woman’s life.
Woman in many countries don’t enter in holy places during their periods, you can’t say ‘not allowed’, nobody is gonna check. People tend to believe that, it’s because of the impure blood, pointing like she’s impure to attend or visit such a holy place. Debates & fights have been going on this for a long time.
But according to the Vedas & other religious manuscripts the reason is something that can make a woman proud about.
During menstruation, a woman is believed to have a high level of supernatural energy with in. One shouldn’t hurt or make her do heavy jobs. When she, during her period enters in to a holy place where a god/goddess is worshiped in the form of an idol, her energy makes the idol loose the power & energy with in & it’s shifted towards her body. So the idol becomes just powerless, until she leaves.
So a woman in period is not impure, she holds a divine energy with in, that can overpower the idol.
Let it be a myth or just a belief, take care of her during periods to pregnancy. A little care is all she wish for.
